Flour DE Vie has joined the biosphere!  As part of my new website, I will be sharing tips, trends, insider secrets and fun ideas for event and floral design throughout the year. I will bring you ideas from top designers and event planners, interesting new flower varieties and combinations to help you make all your events extraordinary in 2015!

Did you know that 40% of couples get engaged between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day each year? That makes this prime wedding planning season, so I want to share some great trends I learned from Beverly Hills event planning superstar Mindy Weiss. In December Mindy presented at a fabulous event design showcase produced by Another Memorable Event at the Weston Galleria ballroom in Houston in collaboration with Jeff Leatham, the divine L.A. and Paris based Creative Director of the Four Seasons George V.   I had so much fun on the design team working with Jeff into the wee small hours all weekend, but you’ll have to wait for my next blog to hear all about that…

Mindy’s clientele is very exclusive and she travels wherever the event takes her to transform spaces (recently an entire resort on a private island….) She was warm and delightful and shared some wonderful insights about trends for weddings in 2015. I was very pleased that Fleur de Vie has been on trend for many of the weddings and events we have designed in 2014 as you can see below!

Trend #1 Green, white and neutrals in an “unkempt garden” look with succulents and botanical touches (think California style!). The Cafe Au Lat dahlias and succulents really work well together…

Trend #2 Rustic Chic is still going strong….floral garlands, rustic wooden  arches in outdoor locations (this one is for a wedding we did on the Colorado River at the Wyatt Lost Pines)

Trend # 3 Live indoor trees and string lights create a magical forest effect. The high ceilings in the River Oaks Country Club called for drama at the Trees of Hope 25th Anniversary Gala.

We hung these globe string lights at a rehearsal dinner at Ciao Bell on the covered patio to create a romantic Tuscan feel…

Trend #4 Trees as a ceremony focal point for outdoor weddings..I really love this fabulous ancient live oak at a private ranch wedding we designed last April! Like her father before her, the bride and her sisters climbed this tree as children and dreamed of getting married beneath its wide embrace.

Trend #5 Simple cakes (and fabulous flowers…) Gold is a new and edible trend for this elegant wedding cake design by Marlene Romero. This one is surrounded by bridesmaids’ bouquets (there were 14!)

Trend #6 Soft “Impressionist Palette” colors will be big and are on the Pan tone’s trend color palette for 2015.

We are busy creating designs for weddings, rehearsal dinners, fashion shows and luncheons for 2015 and are so grateful to our wonderful clients from last year and beyond for giving us the opportunity to see your wedding vision come to life!  Hope you’ll join me on our blog adventure and share in the joy of creating art from nature!
